Slovenia
- Early Slavic settlement in the Alps leads into long-term Habsburg/Austrian rule from the 14th century to 1918.
- 1918: Joins the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, which merges into the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes (renamed Yugoslavia in 1929).
- 1945: Incorporated as a constituent republic within Tito’s federal Yugoslavia.
- 1991: Ten-Day War secures independence following a national referendum to split from Yugoslavia.
- 2004: Becomes the first former Yugoslav state to join both the European Union and NATO.
